Valley Grande City Council passes two resolutions at meeting

The Valley Grande City Council approved two Resolutions and an Ordinance at its Council meeting on Monday.
President Pro Tem Kay Davidson presided over the meeting in absence of Mayor Wayne Labbe, who’s out with an illness. Other council members were present: Sara Day, Bruce Hughes, Jane Harris and Robbie Rose, and City Clerk/Treasurer Kim Harris.
Resolution 2021-129, Tier 1 to Tier 2 Benefits Plan, was the first one that passed. The resolution’s deadline is May 8.
Resolution 2021-131, the Annual MWPP Report, also was approved.
Ordinance 2021-130, Sewer Rate increase to amend Ordinance 2012-88 was approved to get put on first read. The sewer rate will increase from $25 to $35 starting July 1.
In other council news:
-The contract for the Fourth of July fireworks show was signed last month. Half of the cost was paid and the other half is due after the event takes place on July 3, a day before Independence Day.
-Jane Harris said she talked with Joyce Sims of ALDOT about lowering speed limits in Valley Grande. Sims received a letter from Kim Harris and it’s the city’s responsibility.
-Davidson said she’ll talk to Will Barrett of Civil Southeast about the light at County Road 22 and status on ALDOT TAP Grant.
-Bubba Holley of Parks and Recreation said Valley Grande City Baseball and Softball Youth Leagues will start on May 10.
-The Council agreed to purchase spray for the weeds and bugs at city park, which would cost over $2,000.
The next Valley Grande City Council meeting will be held on May 17 at 6 p.m. at Valley Grande City Hall.
