The Dallas County Commission approved four Resolutions at its monthly meeting on Monday at the Dallas County Courthouse.

The entire Commission was present: Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn along with Commissioners Connell Towns, Vivian Rogers, Jan Justice and Curtis Williams.

The first Resolution, 2021-5-1, got approved as Attorney David Norton approving execution of deeds to lift station properties in the Craig Field area. Norton said it would get $1 million from Clean Water fund to upgrade and fix pumps.

The annual West Alabama Public Transportation 5311 Application was approved. It’s an annual designated letter for the organization to solicit funds.

Resolution 2021-5-4, the vacating of the remaining portion of County Road 145 was approved.

Resolution 2021-5-2, the 2020 Dellwood Report, was approved. It’s the annual report on MWPP.

Resolution 2021-5-3, requesting approval to lease and purchase a wheel loader utilizing a ACCA joint bid.

Dallas County Homeland Security/EMA Director Toya Stiles discussed that Dallas County residents can get FEMA assistance for a family member who died from COVID-19 pandemic after January 20. FEMA will reimburse people for funeral expenses.

The eligibility requirements: the death must have occurred in the United States, a person must be a U.S. citizen, must provide name, social security number, address, and phone number. The number to call is 1-844-684-6333.

The Commission approved three items from County Administrator Barbara Harrell: Invoice for CDBG Grant, April Budget Revisions, and FY21 Disposed Assets.

On the Consent Agenda, the commission approved Weida Sheehan attending AATA Summer Conference in Orange Beach June 13-17 for $2,893.91 and Sandra Cowan attending the 2021 Annual Summer Conference in Orange Beach for $1,583.81.

The Commission also received gifts from two different organizations.

Drug Free Communities of Dallas County Executive Director Jerria Martin and Ricky Martin received a pledge of support from the Commission. They handed the Commission gift bags in appreciation.

Camp Perry Varner Juvenile Detention Center Director Marcus Hannah said the organization had an excellent audit. The Wallace Community College-Selma Athletic Director gave the council a bag of collard greens that the students planted. Hannah also credited Selma City Councilman Sam Randolph for his role in the students’ culinary arts program.

Nunn praised Hannah’s leadership and the other workers at Camp Perry Varner.
