An Orrville man is charged with murder on the Fourth of July.
According to the Selma Police Department, Demetrius Leashore is charged with murder in the shooting death of Isiah Simmons Jr.
Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford said the incident occurred on the 1800 block of Bienville Street around 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Simmons was taken to the hospital and later died from his gunshot wounds.
“Simmons was struck by a bullet and died a short time later,” Fulford said.
Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson said the two men were arguing over a woman, the victim’s wife.
Witnesses said that a suspect was driving a vehicle, pulled up, Leashore stepped out of the vehicle and shot Simmons.
This is the 12th homicide in Selma this year, surpassing the 10 from 2020.
