Michael D. Foundation hosts Family Fun Day at Selma YMCA

Under a bright sun and clear blue skies, the Michael David Johnson Foundation held its annual Family Fun Day/Back to School Giveaway on Saturday at the Selma YMCA.
Vendors and residents across Selma and Dallas County lined up and participated in the event hosted Johnson, a former NFL and Dallas County standout.
“It’s a chance for us to embrace as a community, we have to support each other,” Johnson said
Selma Housing Authority, Drug Free Communities of Dallas County, Sophia P. Kingston Elementary School, Donovan McGuire Legal Services and Lewis Brothers Funeral Home and Selma High girls basketball were among the organizations with the tents.
Kids enjoyed themselves with the events that included water slides, face painting, games, throwing footballs and bingo.
School supplies were given out to the students from the various vendors and the Michael D. Johnson Foundation.
Local residents praised Johnson, who played in the NFL from 2009 to 2018.
“I love the fact Michael Johnson came back to give to the community,” said Renee Harris of Rural Health Services.
McGuire said he was honored to participate in the Michael D. Johnson event.
“It’s truly a blessing to part of an event that someone consistently producing for the community,” McGuire said. “We always want to be part of that.”
Johnson’s mother, Thomasine Johnson, who’s the Secretary and Treasurer of Michael D. Johnson foundation, said the goal was to make fun day a bigger event.
