National Salvage & Service Corporation damaged in fire

A major fire happened on Sunday at a Dallas County business.

National Salvage & Service Corporation, located on 12170 River Road in Burnsville was damaged by fire. 

Fire spread throughout the property and burned down the company’s office trailer and oil-treated railroad ties on the property.

The Valley Grand Volunteer Fire Department worked the fire.

An Alabama Law Enforcement Officer and witnesses said that lightning struck the property and caused the huge fire.

A heavy rainstorm and thunder hit Dallas County on Sunday afternoon and again Sunday night.

Highway 140 has been closed since the fire began. ALEA said  that officials may reopen that road by Monday afternoon.

Central Alabama Electric Cooperative said the outage affected 260 members in Dallas County. Officials estimate service will be restored later Monday evening.

Officials think the fire could last a few days.

National Salvage & Service Corporation is a big part of the railroad tie industry.

Burnsville is located a few miles east of Selma.
