A former Dallas County High School graduate was named Miss Alabama State University last month.
Kendra Angion was officially crowned Miss ASU on October 5.
The 2018 graduate of Dallas County High is a senior majoring in secondary education and honored to become the school’s 82nd Miss ASU.
“It means a lot to me. Having people flying in to help me celebrate this occasion is a special feeling, I’m thrilled,” Angion said.
Angion, 21, is the latest family on the ASU homecoming court. Her older sister, Ivana, was the first Runner Up at ASU two years ago.
ASU President, Dr. Quinton T. Ross, Jr. administered the Oath of Office to Angion and predicted great things for her.
“I know your reign will exceed expectations,” Ross said.
Angion will push her initiative, “Going for the G.O.L.D. (Greatness, Obtain, Leadership, Determination),” which targets health awareness and community initiatives.
She has made the Dean’s List her entire academic career at ASU.
“Alabama State gave me the reassurance that I’m capable of accomplishing whatever I want to accomplish. I feel that I can reach my goals and fulfill my dreams because my HBCU told me that I can,” Angion said.
Angion, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. credits her parents, Rev. Dr. Stanford and Athenia Angion, for providing a solid foundation growing up.
Stanford Angion said his daughter began competing in pageants at a young age and it grew from there.
“Kendra has been preparing for this day since she was a little girl participating in pageants,” Stanford Angion said. “At four years old she started participating in pageants, and continued to do so until now. She takes competing very serious, but she enjoys the process and always gives God the glory. I too, thank God for her humility and competitiveness.”
For Angion, the roots for her future success began at Dallas County High. She was Miss Dallas County High and Miss Homecoming and Senior Class President.
