Historic Tabernacle Baptist Church-Selma hosted the 154th annual session of the Alabama State Missionary Baptist Church Convention this week.
Events were held at Selma University from Monday to Wednesday. A reception was held Wednesday at the Bullock Center, also hosted by Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Dr. Otis Dion Culliver, Senior Pastor at Historic Tabernacle Baptist Church-Selma, said he enjoyed the church hosting the convention. He also praised the church’s congregation for stepping up to serve as excellent hosts.
“It has been an honor to host the convention,” Culliver said. “I’m so thankful it came back to the city of Selma. I’m grateful for the Historic Tabernacle Baptist Church. I’m proud of our church.”
Culliver also thanked the Selma Police Department, Dallas County Sheriff Office and governments in Selma and Dallas County for help to make the convention safe and successful.
“I’m thankful for the leaders in our municipal city and county governments and our law enforcement in Selma and Dallas County,” Culliver said.
Dr. Verdell Lett Dawson, Board Chairman of the Historic Tabernacle Baptist Church Legacy Foundation, said it was enjoyable to serve as convention host and interact with the out of town guests.
“We were excited to host the convention,” Lett Dawson said. “We wanted to show hospitality and that Selma is a place to visit.”
An Executive board meeting, Selma University Trustee Board meeting, Layman’s conference, Layman’s President address, Minister’s Wives luncheon, and Layman’s ministry were among the events that took place at the convention.
