The Selma Rotary Club is honoring the youngest club president in its rich history.
The inaugural Renee Kelley Wilkerson Scholarship Competition was held this week. The competition existed for years, but is now after Wilkerson, who passed away Jan. 13, 2017, in a single-car accident.
Dallas County High School’s Darius Nix won a $1,500 scholarship after ranking by Rotary Club members. Nix‘s presentation centered around achieving goals, being a mentor and doing the right things even when no one is watching.
Selma High School’s Devon Benjamin, Morgan Academy’s Wilks Chittom also delivered strong presentations.
The way we see it, all three seniors are winners. We love watching these students evolve into young adults wanting to change the world. In a social media era, kids have lots of temptations to get into trouble.
It’s a credit to their parents and teachers that Chittom, Nix and Benjamin are good kids and on the right path.
We believe that Renee Kelley Wilkerson is looking down and smiling at this moment.
Thank you, Selma Rotary Club for providing this great moment.
