An elderly man was shot Tuesday morning by a juvenile after the man’s dog allegedly charged at him and some others juveniles while they were walking down a street.
According to Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford, the man’s dog charged at the juveniles, who were walking near the intersection of Furrniss Avenue and Lauderdale Street. One of the juveniles pulled out a gun, fired off several shots and killed the dog.
Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson said the dog’s owner, Jeff Tomlinson, tried to get the dog, but he was shot in the arm. Fulford said that Tomlinson was later airlifted to a hospital to get treated for injuries.
Jackson and Fulford said two juveniles were taken into custody by the SPD and charged with first-degree assault and cruelty to animals. Jackson said that Tomlinson, 70, survived the shooting and the injury is not life threatening.
Fulford said the shooting remains under investigation by the SPD.
