Dallas County residents had an impact on the State Senator District 23 Democratic nomination between Hank Sanders and Robert Stewart.
We all know that Stewart defeated Sanders, winning 56 percent of the vote to secure the democratic nomination in Tuesday night’s Runoff election. He won 8,245 to 6,585
Stewart and Sanders split the eight counties. Stewart won Dallas County, Lowndes County, Monroe County and Wilcox County. Sanders won Perry County, Butler County, Clarke County and Conecuh County.
But it was the huge vote total in Dallas County, which Stewart outvoted Sanders 4,571 to 1,721 votes that allowed Stewart to emerge victorious by large margin.
Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn said that Dallas County had a 30 percent voter turnout in the Runoff Election.
If Dallas County had a higher voter turnout, we believe that Stewart would’ve won by a bigger margin.
For the Dallas County voters who voted in the Runoff, pat yourselves on back. Your presence was felt in the Runoff Election.
