Selma High defensive back Dakaari Nelson has decided to play in the Big Ten conference.
Nelson verbally committed to Penn State on Saturday. Nelson, who plays safety and wide receiver for the Saints, made the announcement on Social Media.
“First of all, I would like to thank the man above for giving me the ability to play the game that I have come to love,” Nelson wrote. “Secondly, I would like to thank all the coaches that have believed in me and gave me an opportunity to play for their program.”
Nelson, ranked 12th statewide by Rivals.com, also thanked his older brother, Dion Nelson, a receiver at Tennessee-Martin and the Saints coaching staff led by head coach Willie Gandy.
“I would love to give a huge shoutout to my big brother for always competing with me every time we stepped on the field together,” Nelson said. “I also wanna thank the whole Selma High coaching staff and football program and AllGasTraining program for developing me into the great player that I am today.”
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Nelson is a big-play threat on offense, defense and special teams. At safety, Nelton had 72 tackles and 8 interceptions, including a pair of pick-6 touchdowns. Nelson caught 43 passes for 563 yards and 6 TDs on offense and returned 15 punts for 310 yards and a score.
