Selma High Athlete Dakaari Nelson has been chosen to play in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Football Classic in two months.
The game will be played Dec. 10 at Hancock Whitney Stadium on the South Alabama campus in Mobile.
A Penn State verbal commitment, Nelson is chosen to the 40-man roster as a defensive back/linebacker.
According to the Alabama High School Football Historical Society, Nelson is the first Selma player picked for the game since Ben Obamanu in 2001. Free safety Reginald Glover was picked in 1999
Selma High head coach Willie Gandy said he’s pleased with Nelson’s selection.
“It’s always great when one of your guys make the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game,” Gandy said. “Only a few kids are selected to play in this game so it’s a big deal to play and represent your school. I must say I’m proud of him.”.
The AHSACDA All-Star Selection Committee selected 40 seniors from nominations submitted by member school coaches at a meeting last week at the AHSAA Office.
