Carolyn Joanne Nichols White passed away January 1, 2023 at the age of 89. She was born at home in Sprott, Alabama on January 4, 1933, the sixth of eight children. Her parents were Jeremiah Vann Nichols and Gillie Nichols Nichols.
She attended a small, one room schoolhouse in their community where her older sister, Gladys was her very strict teacher. She later attended Caffee School a little farther from her home, and then High School at Suttle High School where she graduated in May of 1951. She married Julian A. White on June 3, 1951.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Aubrey White; daughter, Ginger Kay White Waites; granddaughter, Dawnette Raquel Sanders Nichols Godwin; sisters, Gladys Nichols (Byron) Mosely and Billie Nichols (Dwight) Taylor; brothers, Leslie (Edith) Nichols, Lloyd (Jane) Nichols, Charles (Joyce) Nichols, John (Gail) Nichols and Max (Patricia) Nichols.
She is survived by her daughters, Julia Anne White (Louie) Russo and Cynthia Lee White [Mott]; grandchildren, Amy Mott (David) Johnston, Renea Waites (Scott) Ammons, Julian “Jay” Mott, Jeffery (Suzanne) Waites Sr. and Randy Bonner; great-grandchildren, Kinsley (Landon) Mott, Haley Johnston (Justin) Carroll, Rachel Johnston (Slade) Holley, Breanna Ammons, Tyler Ammons, Tori Hobbie, Gabriel Mott, Ryder Mott, Nicolas Mott, Collin (Carmen) Nichols, Jeffery (Brittany) Waites Jr., Alex (Heather) Waites and Trevor Waites and a host of great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Ocmulgee Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Goodwin of Ocmulgee Baptist Church and Rev. Donald Harris of Friendship Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be great-grandsons, Tyler Ammons, Ryder Mott, Jeffery Waites, Jr., Alex Waites, Nicolas Mott and Trevor Waites.
