A Selma man was arrested Monday by the Selma Police Department for his alleged role in the death of a woman who disappeared on New Year’s Eve.
According to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson, Napolean Morton was arrested after an investigation by the Selma Police Department and Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement found the body of Patricia Effinger, 64, Saturday in the Beloit area of Dallas County. Effinger disappeared on December 31. She was last seen on the 800 block of First Avenue in Selma. Forensics is examining her body.
Morton, 55, is charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence. He’s being held in the Dallas County Jail on cash bonds totaling $21,000.
“He was the last person to see her and the last person to be with her,” Jackson said.
Jackson said that Morton could see more charges once the autopsy is completed.
