In his 1 p.m. update, Alabama Power spokesperson Mike Jordan said 3,200 Alabama Power customers are without electricity in central Alabama, with 3,000 of those in the Selma area.
Jordan said there are more than 1,300 personnel working the hardest hit areas of Dallas, Elmore, and Tallapoosa Counties, working to restore service that was knocked out by Thursday’s heavy storms and tornadoes.
One of the challenges, Jordan said, is accessing damaged areas to assess damaged power infrastructure and make repairs.
“Damage to infrastructure is severe and some areas of Dallas County remain difficult to access. Additionally, some homes and businesses may be too badly damaged to safely receive power,” he said.
We will update this story as more information is made available.
