Auburn University’s Sigma Nu Fraternity helped Selma residents clean up with tornado damage last week.

Ten members provided chainsaws, pickup trucks, wheelbarrows and, most of all, hands, feet and strong backs to clean up downed trees and scattered debris.

“The Helping Hand” represents one of the five points of Sigma Nu’s badge.

“It means the world to me that my chapter brothers would help out in this manner. The community of Selma is my home, and to know my Brothers cared enough to give up their MLK holiday to help my neighbor’s clear debris shows their heart and the Auburn spirit of the human touch and compassion for all,” Auburn Sigma Nu Lt. Commander Vice President George Turner said.

Sigma Nu Fraternity was founded at the Virginia Military Institute in 1869. Over 260,000 men have become members of the fraternity.

The fraternity’s mission is “to develop ethical leaders inspired by the principles of Love, Honor and Truth; to foster the personal growth of each man’s mind, heart and character; and to perpetuate lifelong friendships and commitment to the fraternity.”

The Beta Theta Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity was founded at Auburn University in 1890.
