B.S. Phillips of Linden, AL entered into eternity with his Savior on May 6, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents W.T. and Marie Phillips and his siblings W.E. Phillips, Rebecca Phillips Beshears, and Katie Phillips Miller.
He is survived by his devoted wife Geraldine Tucker Phillips; his two children Kerry Phillips Gibbs (Lee) of Selma, AL and Barry Scott Phillips, Jr. (Laura) of Demopolis, AL; his five grandchildren Brandon Gibbs, Gregsby Gibbs (Katie), Kendall Gibbs (Claire), Eli Phillips, and Easton Scott Phillips; and his five great-grandchildren Maggie Gibbs, Emeline Gibbs, Elle Gibbs, Tucker Gibbs, and Lallie Gibbs; and his sister Lucille Phillips Griffin.
B.S. was born in Thomaston, AL on July 14, 1926 to W.T. and Marie Phillips. He grew up in the Linden area and joined the Navy at age 18 where he served our country during World War II. He returned home after the war where he finished his schooling at Marion Military Institute. As he entered the workforce, he soon found his life’s trade of plumbing and electrical work. At age 23, he met and fell in love with Geraldine Tucker of Myrtlewood. They married on June 2, 1950 and remained inseparable throughout their 72 years of marriage. B.S. started Linden Plumbing and Electric Company and later went to work at American Can Company (now Georgia Pacific) in Naheola.
B.S. was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and cherished spending time with his family.
B.S. Phillips was a man of honesty, integrity, and hard work ethic. He led by example, and his faith was apparent to everyone he encountered. He was a mentor to many and never hesitated to lend a helping hand. He joined Linden Baptist Church in 1946—the church he loved with all of his heart. There, he remained a faithful and loyal deacon and servant for the next 75 years. B.S. was a dedicated member of Bethel Baptist Builders where he used his gifts to further build God’s kingdom. The legacy of B.S. Phillips will indeed continue on for generations to come.
Visitation will be held at Linden Baptist Church on Tuesday May 9, 2023 from 10:00 am until the 11 am service time with Dr. Chris Kynard officiating. Burial will follow at Linden Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Legacy of Faith Building Fund at Linden Baptist Church, P.O. Box 480776, Linden, AL 36748.Pallbearers will be: Danny Baker, Kenneth Barrineau, Gregsby Gibbs, Kendall Gibbs, Eli Phillips, and Chip Vice
