On Monday Night the Demopolis School Board named former Morgan Academy Head Baseball Coach Stephen Clements as the new Assistant football coach at Demopolis High School.
Clements served as the head man at Morgan Academy for 5 years. During that time the Senators enjoyed success winning over 100 games. The Senators under Clements’ watch went to the AISA semifinals every year except this past season. With Demopolis naming a new football coach and Athletic Director in Lance Tucker, Clements feels Demopolis is a good place to go and take a step back now.
“Time to take a step back and relax I am tired. I am super excited to be helping coach Lance Tucker at Demopolis high school and I can not wait to see where this program goes,” Clements said. “I have had 5 great years at Morgan Academy and Morgan will always hold a special place with me and my family. I hope that we have thought them a little about baseball and a lot about Jesus and how to be productive in society. Coaching is more than just sports; I am blessed to be a part of helping guide children in the right direction.
“I was always told to leave a program better than you found it and I am happy to say that Morgan Academy baseball is headed in the right direction as I leave them. Jesus has been good to me and my family and I am blessed to have the opportunity to go to Demopolis with Mr. Tony Willis(superintendent) Lance Tucker Head coach and Mrs Gantt principal. I cannot wait for me and my wife April Clements to go together and be a part of a great city. She gets very little credit but without her, I would not be able to coach and get anything done.”
Willis is excited to have Clements on staff and what he brings to the table for Demopolis High School.
“We’re excited to have him. He’s a quality person with a quality family,” Willis said. “We have hired him and his wife. They have nothing but good things to say about their former employer but they wanted to be somewhere where they could work together. He will be a classroom as well. He has a wealth of knowledge.
“He brings that character and work ethic that is something every coach needs. We hired him for football but we may use him in other places we never know how the summers go. We are excited for his knowledge and what he adds to our staff here.”
