An idea from Rep. Prince Chestnut a few years eventually resulted into House Bill 164 last week.
HB 164 is a requirement for public school students to complete a course on personal financial literacy and money management and pass a standardized assessment before high school graduation.
Rep. Andy Whitt, R-Harvest sponsored the Bill, but Chestnut suggested it. Chestnut was glad that HB 164 came to fruition. We were glad to see Chestnut co-sponsored the bill, alongside Mike Shaw, R-Hoover, James Lomax, R-Huntsville, Jeff Sorrells, R-Hartford, Terri Collins, R-Decatur, Danny Crawford, R-Athens, Rex Reynolds, R-Hazel Green, and House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels, D-Huntsville
HB 164 passed in the House Education Policy Committee last week.
Chestnut can often be been in Selma and Dallas County always looking to improve quality of life for the local residents. The latest idea, which will help future high school graduates with finances, is a good one.
