The Dallas County School system has been Jamming out all summer during its summer enrichment program and the culmination of the summer is coming up in a big incentive celebration on July 6.
JAM is an acronym the school system is using this summer for its summer learning program. J stands for Joining class daily. A stands for Achieving with the ELA and/or Math and M stands for Mastering Daily assessments with a 70% or better. There is a criteria for the students to meet the incentive. The criteria is 100% attendance and 95% or above on weekly assessments for the entire Summer JAM. The students who have met that criteria will receive rewards on July 6. The reward for the 2nd Grade Students is a $250.00 Visa Gift Card. Third- 11th grade’s reward is a $1,000.00 Visa Gift Card and for seniors $1,500.00 towards College Tuition, High School Senior Portraits and Fees, and/or Visa Card. The goal of the program is to close the achievement gaps due to the loss of instructional time during COVID with a focus on the following components:
-Building math computations with word problems
-Critical thinking skills
-Reading comprehension with use of reading comprehension strategies
The celebration will be from 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., at Valley Grande Elementary School.
