A judicial department discussion was the highlight of Monday’s Selma City Council Finance Committee meeting.
Selma Municipal Judge Donovan McGuire appeared at the meeting and discussed what the department needs.
“We need a Zoom feature to increase technology for court cases,” McGuire said.
Council Members present at the meeting were: City Council President Billy Young, Council members Troy Harvill, Michael Johnson, Christie Thomas, Atkin Jemison, Jannie Thomas and Sam Randolph. Harvill is the finance committee Chairperson.
Young said he felt the judicial branch should work independently from the executive and legislative branches. He added that the judicial department should submit their budget request to the council.
McGuire volunteered to talk with Selma Municipal Judge Brandon J. Wooten, who was not at the meeting, about what the department needs.
