Despite two stellar individual performances, Meadowview Christian School (MCS) lost its season opener to Jacksonville Christian 53-26 at Wasden Field.
Meadowview, 0-1, scored four touchdowns in John Treherne’s debut as Trojans’ head coach. Treherne said he was pleased with the effort.
“It was a very good game against a very good team,” Treherne said. “Our guys played hard the whole game and never gave up.”
Quarterback Alex Johnson threw for 212 yards, two touchdowns, and ran for 62 more yards with a two-point conversion. Running back Trent Ballard had 252 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns, including 111 yards rushing. He scored on a 62-yard touchdown reception, an 83-yard kickoff return, and an 87-yard run.
Cole Ballard, Ballard’s brother, scored the Trojans’ other touchdown, making a 25-yard TD reception.
The Trojans trailed 20-6 after one quarter and 51-18 at halftime. The game had a running clock in the second half.
