Selma High will open its football season in the state’s capital on Thursday night.
The Saints will face Beauregard at 7 p.m. in the AHSAA Kickoff Classic at Cramton Bowl.
The game will be the head coaching debut for Leon Day with the Saints.
“I am beginning my first year as head coach at Selma, and we are truly thankful to be a part of something this special,” Day said.
The Saints will lead by quarterback Samarian Woods and wide receiver Omari Smith, and Selma fields four seniors and just five juniors this season.
“I don’t like to say we are rebuilding, but we are building something special,” Day said.
Beauregard is led by its defense, safety T.J Barker, an Air Force commitment, and three-year defensive line starter K.D. Pitts.
Beauregard head coach Justin Jones said he’s honored to play in the Kickoff Classic.
“We at Beauregard appreciate the opportunity to be a part of something like this. It is exciting for us at Beauregard,” Jones said. “This atmosphere is really special. We are coming off a successful 10-2 season, but we have emphasized we need to keep putting our boots to the ground. Our kids are doing just that.’’
Beauregard defeated Selma 21-16 in last year’s meeting.
