All four public school teams in Dallas County begin region play on Friday night.
Southside, Keith, Selma and Dallas County all play in their respective region openers in week 3 of the high school season. All games have a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Southside at Trinity: The unbeaten Panthers (1-0) remain on the road, facing Trinity in their Region 3, Class 3A opener. Southside knocked off Selma in its opener last week.
Wide receiver Derick Smith, linebacker Jay Moore and quarterback MJ Reese shined for the Panthers last week.
While Southside head coach Charles Moody Jr. was proud of the win, he said the Panthers can improve.
Keith at Linden: The unbeaten Bears (2-0) get their toughest test of the season, playing at the Patriots in a Region 3, Class 1A opener. Linden has won 11 of the 14 meetings, including a 32-22 win last year in Orrville.
Keith head coach Anthony Lumpkin expects another hard-fought battle between the two squads.
“Linden’s a disciplined well-coached team that plays hard on every down,” Lumpkin said.
Quarterback Aveon Young, running back Sederrion Reuben and athlete Malcolm Jones were among those who shined against Dallas County.
Demopolis at Selma: The Saints (0-2) seek their first win of the season in a Region 3, Class 5A opener. The Tigers lead the series 21-20, including a 22-0 victory last year.
Selma must find a way to get its offense untracked, scoring only one touchdown. The other score came defensively, which Kendarious White scored against the Panthers. The offensive line must protect quarterback Samarion Woods and block Omari Smith.
Morgan Academy at Lee-Scott: The Senators’ road tour continues as they face second-ranked Lee-Scott.
“They are really an impressive team,” Morgan Academy head coach Danny Raines said. “They are good in all three phases: offense, defense and special teams.”
Quarterback Caden Tellier, wide receiver Milton Hand, running back Rhett Thomas, linebacker Ryall King, and Jack Johnson shined for the Senators against Valiant Cross Academy last week.
Dallas County at Sipsey Valley: The Hornets visit Sipsey Valley in their Region 3, Class 4A opener in Bhul.
Dallas County (0-1) must get offense from more than Cederick Simmions, who scored three times against Keith.
Meadowview Christian School (MCS) at Springwood Christian: The Trojans (0-2) are coming off a bye week of sorts as their game against Trinity Christian didn’t take place. The last time MCS played was a 51-0 loss at Southern Academy two weeks ago.
