Selma High is off to its worst start in years after a loss to Demopolis Friday, when running back Keyshawn Rowser scored three touchdowns as Demopolis rolled past the Saints 40-0 at Memorial Stadium.
The Saints (0-3, 0-1 Region 3, Class 5A) haven’t won since the end of the regular season last year.
Selma first-year head coach Leon Day did not make any excuses after the game.
“It was a tough loss and an emotional game, but our kids played hard,” Day said.
Rowser scored on runs of 35-and 31-yards as the Tigers (2-1, 1-0) led 13-0 after one quarter and 27-0 at halftime.
In the second quarter, Rowser added a 3-yard TD run and quarterback Keith McElroy and Dalyn Jackson connected on a 11-yard TD pass.
Demopolis scored its final two touchdowns in the fourth quarter for a 40-0 advantage.
Jackson scored on a 60-yard punt return and Corey Reynolds recovered a fumble in the end zone.
Demopolis head coach Lance Tucker said he was pleased with how the Tigers bounced back from a loss last week.
“Anytime you come over to Selma and get a win over here, it’s always huge,” Tucker said. “I’m proud of the way the kids played coming back from a loss to get our first Region win.”
Selma travels to Holtville next Friday.
