Former Morgan Academy shortstop Gunnar Henderson is still the favorite to win the American League Rookie of the Year.
Henderson, 22, enters this week hitting .258 with a team-high of 27 homers and 79 RBI in his first full Major League Baseball (MLB) season.
Henderson, the Orioles’ second-round pick in the MLB Draft four years ago, is confident in the Orioles.
“It was a matter of time,” Henderson told MLB.com. “I mean, every team goes through this at some point throughout the season, and I felt like we haven’t really gotten on ourselves about it. Just got to play through it.”
Baltimore entered the week atop the AL East Division and owns the tiebreaker over the Tampa Bay Rays.
“Everybody just wants to go out there and compete and win no matter how many we’ve lost or how many runs we put up days before,” Henderson told MLB.com. “We don’t hang our hats on that, we just go out there and play the game hard the next day.”
