Residents in the Bogue Chitto community of Dallas County will soon receive cleaner, safer water.

A Formal Amendment Public Hearing for the Bogue Chitto Household Connections Water Project was held Monday at the Dallas County Commission.

The Dallas County Commission – Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn, Commissioners Curtis Williams, Connel Towns, Vivian Rogers, and Jan Justice – approved the resolution.

“It’s a big deal for that area to get clean water,” Nunn said.

Dallas County Grant Administrator Cara Stallman presented the CDBG Grant CY-CM-PF-19-909 at the Public Hearing.  She said the bid was $125,000 over the amount, but the West Dallas Water Authority handled the rest. The West Dallas board got contractors to run the water line from the meter and connect to homes.

“We need the clean water,” said Bogue Chitto resident Shelly McGee. “We had to buy water from stores every week. We can have clean water instead of from our wells.”

Bogue Chitto residents must come to New Vcrnon C.P. Church on Oct. 26 between 3 and 6 p.m. to fill out the paperwork for the completion of the waterline.
