The Evans Special Benefit Fund Golf Classic is going through a transition in its 13th year.

For the first time in its history, founder George Evans was not in attendance to greet the countless sponsors and volunteers. Evans, who served as Selma Mayor from 2008-2016, passed away on May 15.

While we miss the warmth and kindness of Evans, his family carries on the legacy of helping special needs kids in Selma and Dallas County.

Jeannie Evans, Evans’ widow, presented $5,000 checks each to Cahaba Mental Health, Selma City Schools, and Dallas County Schools. Her and Evans’ children, Byron, Duane, and Patrick, all did a solid job honoring their father.

We applaud the sponsors for their support: Vaughan Regional Medical Center,  Selma Housing Authority, Talton, Selma Pepsi Cola, and Cahaba Center for Mental Health. ScreenCo,, Bush Hog, Long Lewis Foundation, Selma City Schools, Dallas County Schools,  Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr., Selma City Council,  Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.”s Delta Pi Lambda Chapter,  Randall Miller Funeral Services, Budweiser, Alabama Power, State Senator Robert Stewart,  Charlie Morgan Grill Master, Henry Brick,  The Selma Links, Feagin and Shirley Johnson, Rural  Health Medical Program, Inc., Beasley Allen Law Firm, Dallas County Commission,  SouthernLinc Wireless, Children’s Denistry of Central Alabama.

We are proud of the Evans family for continuing the legacy George Evans started with the tournament 13 years ago.
