The Delta Pi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was named Alabama Alpha Phi Alpha Alumni Chapter of the Year on Oct. 15.
Also known as the Black Belt Alphas, the Dallas County Chapter won the award at the Alabama District Conference in Montgomery.
The Black Belt Alphas competed against several other Alpha Alumni Chapters throughout the state. They were graded on service, involvement, and leadership in the community.
“Providing service and advocacy for our communities is at core of what we do,” said Chapter President Edward “Ronnie” Armstrong. “Being recognized by our brothers for our work is both humbling and touching beyond words. We are grateful to have the trust and recognition of such a venerable group of trailblazing men. We will continue our mission of developing leaders, promoting brotherhood and academic excellence while providing service and advocacy for our communities.”
The Black Belt Alphas will travel to Charlotte, North Carolina in March 2024, to represent the state at the Regional Conference.
‘The Black Belt Alphas believe in Selma, and I am grateful to serve with these great men of our community,” said Selma City Council President Billy Young, who is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha. “I look forward in the Alphas continued presence and service to our beloved community.”
Selma Municipal Court Judge Donovan McGuire said: “We are always humble about receiving recognition for our service to our community. For us, it’s never about winning. It’s about supporting the very community that has shaped us into the men we are today. We will continue to uphold the aims of manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind.”
