In a nod to the outstanding contributions and achievements of women in Selma and Dallas County, the Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Information is set to host a premier event, the “Celebration of Women Shaping Our Community” Little Black Dress Gala. The event aims to recognize and celebrate the remarkable stories of Dallas County women who have made a lasting impact on the community through their diverse roles and cultural backgrounds.
Sheryl Smedley, Executive Director of the Selma Dallas County Chamber of Commerce said it is time these outstanding women were recognized.
“The Celebration of Women shaping our community event recognizes women whose work has inspired excellence in others,” Smedley. “I think it is important that we honor the women in Selma and Dallas County and let them know how we truly appreciate them and the work they continue to do for our community.”
Scheduled for Nov. 14 at the Arts Revive Carneal building, located at 3 Church Street, the event promises an evening of inspiration, acknowledgement and community spirit. Festivities will kick off at 5:30 p.m. bringing the community together to honor nine incredible women across various categories.
Statewide data indicates that now more than ever women are shaping their communities. An article published by the Alabama Small Business Development Consortium (ASBDC), revealed women-owned businesses are one of the fastest growing areas of the small business arena. The number of women-owned businesses in Alabama is outpacing the rest of the country, with a rate that grew 66.7% between 1997-2013.
With the formation of organizations such as the Women’s Foundation of Alabama, whose mission is to impact the world around us by accelerating economic opportunities for women, the number of influential women in Alabama is on the rise.
The awards to be presented at the gala span a spectrum of achievements, reflecting the diverse roles that women play in shaping the community. The selected honorees have demonstrated exceptional dedication and influence in areas such as business, service organizations and philanthropy. From the Lifetime Achievement Award to the Game Changer award, each category recognizes excellence in fields including business, sports, arts, medicine, education and community service.
Attendees can look forward to more than just the awards ceremony. For a $10 donation, the evening will include the culinary creations of local restaurants and makers, live entertainment and ample networking opportunities.
