Former Selma High and Auburn University standout Ben Obomanu celebrated his 40th birthday last weekend at the George P. Evans Building.
Bruce Holmes Sr. was the guest speaker and got celebrants prepared for Saturday’s Iron Bowl contest against rival Alabama at Jordan-Hare Stadium. CBS will televise the 2:30 p.m. contest at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
“While Ben was at Auburn he beat Alabama four straight years,” Holmes boasted.
Obamanu was recently honored by the Auburn Alumni Association, which named him one of its 20-under-40 class. Obomanu, who played at Auburn from 2002 to 2005, serves as the vice president of the NFL Players Association Seattle Chapter.
He was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2006 NFL draft and played seven seasons, finishing his career with the New York Jets in 2013.
A member of the Alabama State Bar and the Washington State Bar Association, he lives in Seattle with wife Marquinta and their two daughters, Savannah and Lauren.
