Ashley Fancher was in a different position last year. She was an assistant coach on the Meadowview Christian School volleyball team.
Not only was Fancher promoted to head coach this season, she’s also The Selma Times-Journal’s volleyball coach of the year.
Fancher, who guided MCS to the Elite Eight, said going from assistant coach to head coach took an adjustment.“I felt like I was a cheerleader last year and keep the stats,” Fancher said.
As the season progressed, MCS developed into a championship contender and made a tournament run. The Lady Trojans, led by her daughter, Addie Fancher and Maddie Holt, finished two wins from playing for the championship. “The year was exciting,” Fancher said. “Our goal was to get into the Elite Eight. Once we made the Elite Eight, we had a chance. Our goal now is to take the next step: winning a state championship”
Fancher said she has several people to thank for her successful season and coach of the year honor. “I’d like to thank the Meadowview Christian School Administration for giving me this chance, the volleyball team, my family, their families and Bill and Sharon Goodwin,” Fancher said.
With Holt and Addie Fancher returning another year, expect MCS to make another championship run.
