Two former brothers and Selma High standouts are playing on the collegiate level.
Dion “DJ” Nelson Jr. and DaKaari Nelson are now playing at University of Tennessee-Martin and Penn State, respectively.
DJ Nelson is a third-year sophomore tight end for the Skyhawks. He had 12 receptions for 134 yards and four touchdowns for the Skyhawks.
A year ago, DJ Nelson made All-Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) honors with 21 receptions for 267 yards and six touchdowns. He led all OVC tight ends in both receiving yards and touchdowns.
“I [have] high expectations for myself,” DJ Nelson posted on his Twitter page.
DaKaari Nelson, a safety, is about to wrap up his freshman season with Penn State.
The Nittany Lions (10-2) are redshirting DaKaari Nelson, The Selma Times-Journal football player of the year in 2022.
Dakaari Nelson played in only one game this season. Despite the lack of playing time, the Nittany Lions are excited about his future. He will get a chance to compete for playing time in spring practices.
