Elkdale Baptist Church Youth Minister Jonathan Brown discussed bringing tennis courts to the City of Valley Grande at the city council meeting last week.
Brown and Morgan Academy tennis player Anna Brackin spoke at the Valley Grande City Council meeting last week about adding six courts to the city park. Brown, a Valley Grande resident, said the cost will be over $100,000, but added that a grant would cut down on the amount.
Brown also said that he talked to Valley Grande City Councilwoman Kay Davidson about the tennis courts.
“Having a tennis court in Valley Grande would be great exercise and great family time,” Brown said.
Brackin, who’s helped Morgan Academy win multiple Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) State tennis championships, said tennis helps her with schoolwork.
Members present at the meeting were Mayor Wayne Labbe, council members Sara Day, Robbie Rose, Bruce Hughes and Jane Harris.
Harris said that members of the community are open to having a tennis court in the city. Labbe said that he wants more information before the city council makes a decision on the tennis court.
