The Boil Water Notice in the City of Selma has been lifted.  

Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. announced Friday morning that the Selma Water Works System has completed repairs to the water distribution system and the city’s water quality test is back. 

Perkins said that citizens no longer need to boil water before using it. 

“Because of this good news, the water board has discontinued distributing bottled water at this time,” Perkins said. “Thanks to the great work of the Water Distribution Department, our water is safe to use.”

Perkins did, however,  mention some precautionary measures.

“We ask that the citizens be mindful that conditions remain for potential violent and freezing weather over the next week and there is a possibility that further protective measures may become necessary,” Perkins said. “Because of these risks of water system damage from violent and or freezing weather conditions, we are requesting that customers take water conservation measures, meaning limit our water usage as much as practical. “

At a Wednesday press conference held at the Carl C. Morgan  Convention Center, Perkins said residents who live north of Highland Avenue and Highway 219 are impacted by the alert.

According to Selma Water and Sewer department head Robert Bridges, Selma’s Waterworks and Sewer Board experienced low water pressure and water outages. Bridges said that the Selma Waterworks lost 3 million gallons of water.

Perkins said  samples were collected and analyzed to ensure the water is safe before authorities will lift the boil advisory. He anticipated getting results within 24-48 hours. He also said that the water is not contaminated, just following state and federal guidelines.

Dallas County EMA Director Toya Crusoe thanked FEMA and the Selma Area Food Bank for providing bottles of water.
