The Selma Chapter of the Links, Incorporated will have two events scheduled on the MLK Holiday.
The Links will introduce the Black Kidney Awareness Resources and Education (K.A.R.E.) Grant for the second year from Baxter’s Healthcare Corporation’s Renal Business at the MLK Unity Breakfast on Monday at 9 a.m. at Selma University.
On the same day from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., the Links is partnering with Montgomery Breast Cancer Center to provide screening mammograms for both insured and uninsured women at Gospel Tabernacle Church.
Dr. CeCe Grayson of Gospel Tabernacle said women should bring a photo ID, insurance card, and doctor’s order. If a person does not have insurance, the Montgomery Breast Cancer Center said they can work with Alabama Public Health Department to provide for those without insurance.
The keynote speaker at the Links’ annual unity breakfast is Dr. Bryan K. Fair, University of Alabama law professor. He is also of Notes of a Racial Caste Baby: Color Blindness and the End of Affirmative Action (NYU Press 1997).
““I am very proud of the positive impact that The Selma Links are providing in our community,’ Links member Ronita Wade said. “The impactful services we provide through scholarship, health awareness and community outreach is symbolic of the Beloved Community that Dr. King envisioned.”
Dr. Patricia Robinson, Links Health Chairperson and Black K.A.R.E. Ambassador said the organization appreciates the assistance from Baxter Healthcare.
“We are grateful to Baxter Healthcare Corporation’s Renal Business for providing the opportunity for us to join with our community partners and engage citizens in Black K.A.R.E. to reduce this health disparity,” Robinson said.
