Keith jumped out to a fast start and held off AL Johnson to win the girls’ Area 6, Class 1A basketball championship 58-54 on Wednesday in Orrville.
On the boys’ side, RC Hatch upset the seventh-ranked Bears 73-72 to win the tournament title.

Adsia Atkins scored 18 points as the Lady Bears led 20-7. Adkins was named tournament MVP.
Keith earned its first area title in nearly a decade after advancing past the semifinals for the first time in a few years.
“We’ve been eliminated in the first round the last two and it feels great to win the area,” said Keith coach Cecil Williams. “We have a special group of girls.”
Jakayla Moore was stellar for Keith, finishing with 16 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and seven steals. Shania Moore scored 13 points.
RC Hatch 73, Keith 72
The Bobcats overcame a 14-point deficit to win the area title. Keith led 29-15 in the first half, only to watch R.C. Hatch storm back over the last two quarters to capture the area title.
The loss overshadowed a 41-point effort by All-State guard Trey Tisdale.
