The Kevin Wayne Acting Studio workshop presented students with a glimpse of show business, discussing the arts of acting, film and production during the event hosted by Wallace Community College-Selma on Feb. 10. 

Selma Education Literacy Math and Arts (S.E.L.M.A) and the Wallace Community College Best Buy Tech Center Empowers Community partnered with the Kevin Wayne Acting Studio for the workshop.

Alicia Chestnut, founding executive director of S.E.L.M.A. and one of the event’s co-moderators alongside Kaymon McGuire, thanked Wayne and the panel for taking the time to work with aspiring entertainers. McGuire is Coordinator of the Wallace Community College Best Buy Tech Center.

“The workshop served as a dynamic platform for participants to not only learn the technical aspects of acting and filmmaking,” Chestnut said. “They were able to express their unique stories, perspectives and experiences.”

Wayne, who appeared in the movie, “Under Siege,”  told the youth that the road to becoming an actress is paved with hard work, patience and determination.

“If you’re late for an audition, that’s it, you’re done,” Wayne said. “If you want to pursue acting, you must have a good work ethic. You must have thick skin to make it in this business. Acting has ups and downs.”

Actor Eric Gray, actor and author Daphne Danielle, actor and content creators Emily Easley and  Marcell Johnson were on the panel. 

Gray, a former University of Alabama football player, said the keys to a show business career are found in being accountable, disciplined and patient.
