An Editorial Opinion of The Selma Times-Journal
Rep. Prince Chestnut and State Senator Robert Stewart both are always looking out for Selma and Dallas County. We have been impressed with the latest work by Chestnut and Stewart in representing Dallas County.
Chestnut was the driving force behind Baltimore Orioles and former Morgan Academy shortstop Gunnar Henderson getting a proclamation from Gov. Kay Ivey on Feb. 8. Henderson certainly deserved the honor, especially after being named American League Rookie of the year. We applaud Chestnut making sure Henderson and his family get recognized.
Stewart met with Short the Squirrel at the State Capital on Feb. 20 during the state’s reading initiative. Stewart promoted literacy in the area and discussed how it is important to have a productive life. We felt that was something for teachers to hear, especially with chronic absenteeism hitting every area school.
It is easy for Chestnut and Stewart to have the 59th annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee heavily on their minds. Both also have other counties in their coverage area and we truly understand.
While we are still recovering from the Jan. 12, 2023 tornado, it feels great to have Prince Chestnut and Robert Stewart on our side.
