One of the greatest girls’ basketball seasons at Keith High School ended at the Class 1A state semifinals at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center on Monday.
Marion County may have hammered the Lady Bears 65-37 in the Final 4, but we are not looking at the final score. We are proud of the Lady Bears’ development from unknown to Area 6, Class 1A and Central Regional champions.
When things are not going your way, it is easy to give up and walk away. The Lady Bears overcame adversity and gelled together as a team, listening to head coach Cecil Williams, who guided the team to a 1A state title nine years ago. Assistant coach Salisha Robinson deserves credit for guiding the Lady Bears.
We applaud the efforts of starters Jakayla Moore, Aniyah Richardson, Shania Moore, Janiyah King and Adasia Atkins. The other players, Jakiria Hunter, Kamora Johnson, Jakiyah Reese, Tamiami Richardson, Miracle Murray, Chrishundra Richardson, Jocelyn Atkins, Jeffiya Johnson and Jalasiah Satterwhite also deserve pats on the back.
Keith will not win a state championship but the Lady Bears are winners where it counts the most: leaders on and off the court.
