Vice President Kamala Harris made her third appearance at the Bridge Crossing Jubilee on March 3. The crowd welcomed Harris, as they did in 2022, which we expected would happen.
After the November election, we expect either the President or Vice President will attend the 60th anniversary of the Jubilee next March.
We feel that reaching milestones for the Jubilee always seems important to politicians, especially in a non-election year.
Former President Barack Obama and his wife, First Lady Michelle Obama, attended the 50th Jubilee anniversary in 2015.
While we always enjoy and welcome seeing a sitting and former President and Vice President come to the Jubilee, we would like to see them celebrate the March 7, 1965 anniversary without a vote at stake.
The Bridge Crossing Jubilee has always been important to the City of Selma and should stay that way regardless.
