CD renewal tops Valley Grande Council meeting

The Valley City Council returned to its regular council meeting format on March 5. The last two meetings were held on Tuesday because of federal holidays.
Two old business items were on the agenda: sewer system and a new storage building. Both were approved by the council.
Mayor Wayne Labbe said Steward Construction completed the new storage building and building inspector Sam Smitherman is working on the lighting. Labbe also said the sewer system is still being worked on and will have an update soon.
The only new business on the agenda was the CD renewal, also approved by the city council. The CD matured at 4.6%and will be either renewed at 7 or 10 months by First Cahawba Bank.
The entire city council was present for the meeting: Mayor Wayne Labbe, council members Sara Day, Kay Davidson, Jane Harris, Bruce Hughes, Robbie Rose and clerk/treasurer Kim Harris.
In other council news:
- Councilwoman Sara Day announced that Valley Grande’s annual Easter Egg hunt will be held on March 23 at 11 a.m. at Valley Grande Park. Easter is March 31.
- Kim Harris said the city’s Statement of Economic interest is due April 30.
- Labbe said a state auditor will attend the next council meeting on March 18 at 5 p.m.
- The city council approved Resolution 2024-168 to accept a bid for a new 8-month lawn care maintenance bid from Thompson Lawn Care Services in the amount of $23,740 that officially began on March 1. Thompson Lawn Care was the low bidder.
- The next Valley Grande city council meeting will be held March 18 at 5 p.m. at Valley Grande City Hall.
