The Selma-Dallas County Historic Preservation Society (SDCHPS) held its 48th annual Selma Tour of Homes on March 9.
Several guests toured the Vaughn-Smitherman building and officials were impressed with the turnout. The Tour attracted guests from Selma and surrounding counties and as far as Atlanta, Georgia.
‘’We are so appreciative for the many homeowners, volunteers, and visitors that make this event possible,’’ SDCHPS President Sylvia Smith said. “The SDCHPS extends its heartfelt gratitude to the homeowners and historic properties who opened their doors, the dedicated volunteers who ensured a smooth operation, and,the enthusiastic visitors who attended the weekend’s events. We hope everyone had a memorable experience exploring the architectural gems of Selma.
Susan A. Besser of the O’More School of Design was the guest speaker and discussed “The Architects Who Shaped Selma.” Besser has researched Selma’s architecture for over 20 years and published a book about the city’s architectural history in the future.
