A ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony was held Friday for Reflections Coffee Shoppe.
Shop owner Jackie Smith thanked Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr., the Selma City Council, Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn, the Dallas County Commission, her family and friends among those who helped with the opening.
“First I give thanks to God,” Smith said. “I’m overflowing with joy right now. There were times I wanted to throw in the towel, but my family and friends wouldn’t let me. Just see what all you can do by not giving up. ”
Perkins said that the Smith family set a great example for positive things happening in Selma for decades. Jackie and Charles Smith have been married for 46 years.
Nunn said that the Reflections name is the right name for the new coffee shop and predicts Smith will be opening more coffee shops in the future.
The Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce sponsored the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“We’re so thankful to have a Reflections Coffee Shoppe open in Selma,” Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sheryl Smedley said.
Selma City Council members Clay Carmichael, Jannie Thomas, Lesia James and Christie Thomas attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Former Selma councilwoman Angela Benjamin and former Valley Grande councilman Ronald Sawyer also attended.
