West Central Baptist Association hosted World Health Day on April 4 for the third straight year.
The organization traveled across Dallas County and visited several areas, including Vaughan Regional Medical Center, various churches and nursing homes in the area.
Over 1,000 gift bags containing assorted food and biblical scriptures were handed out. The bags were made by the Women’s Missionary Union, Epsilon Sigma Alpha and men and women from many churches in the community.
Among the caregivers were WMU director of West Central Baptist Association Kathy Smith and her husband, Jerry Smith, of Northside Baptist Church and Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum. Smith thanked ESA and various church members.
“It is not a job; it is a calling to care for our loved ones,” Kathy Smith said. “A big thank you to those who made World Health Day special. World Health Day was a celebration in the community. We stopped and prayed over them several times while preparing the gift bags.”
Kathy Smith insists that the charitable act doesn’t come with a salary.
“This is not a paycheck; this is a calling,” Kathy Smith said. “Our mission is to let the light of God shine — to tell them God loves them and we do too.”
