Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America (NACA) will raffle off a new home at 1425 Washington Street at 3 p.m. Sunday.
NACA, Selma Housing Authority, the city of Selma, PERC Selma, Foot Soldiers Park and Black Belt Community Foundation are working together to give Selma residents a chance to own a new home. Many residents lost their homes in the Jan. 12, 2023 tornado.
Selma residents using a Section 8 choice voucher and NACA-qualified members are eligible.
Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. said he commends the efforts of the Selma Housing Authority and Black Belt Community Foundation “as valued recovery partners and celebrates their positive contributions to the resiliency of our community.”
At the end of January, NACA said their goal is to provide 100 new homes in the city. Several broken-down homes in the neighborhood are almost rebuilt. The house at 1425 Washington Street is valued at $169,000.
“This home giveaway initiative advances our shared goals of housing affordability, accessibility, and recovery addressing housing disparities and empowering residents to achieve homeownership,” City of Selma Planning and Development Director Danielle Wooten said.
