Selma and Dallas County seniors should find themselves incredibly blessed.
When seniors graduate from their respective schools, some walk away with scholarship opportunities.
Local fraternities, sororities, businesses and various clubs award scholarships to help students with college tuition yearly.
The Selma Quarterback Club, Dallas County chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Vaughan Regional Medical Center, Dallas-Wilcox Bama Club and Selma Rotary Club are among those organizations that always contribute to the student’s first year or two in college.
I attended a scholarship program on Wednesday and I was impressed at the support by the administrators at Keith High School in Orrville.
Guard Tommy Tisdale signed a scholarship to play at Brewton Parker College. Tisdale didn’t mind sharing the spotlight with his senior classmates getting their moment. He will be an excellent point guard for them, following in the leadership examples set by legends Magic Johnson, Oscar Robertson and John Stockton.
Opportunities exist for the Class of 2024 to set themselves up for a bright future like the senior classes before they had.
I want the scholars to appreciate their opportunities and not waste them. People spend a lot of time and go out of their way to raise money for these ventures. When you have someone sticking up for you, seize the moment.
