Selma native Krystal Hardy Allen was the guest speaker at a book signing entitled “What Goes UnSpoken,”  at the Reflections Coffee Shoppe on April 26.

Allen, a best-selling author and successful businesswoman, addressed local educators, community leaders and business leaders. 

“It was due time for Selma to have the first of many needed crucial conversations about DEI, Beyond Race,” Selma Housing Authority chief operating officer Cicely Curtis said. “We left Reflections Coffee Shoppe inspired to do the necessary work that has confronted us all. We have a responsibility to make sure our practices, policies, and procedures are fair, consistent, and inclusive for all that we serve. We look forward to more open doors to share. Our children deserve excellence.”

Marla Moore of BoomerangSelma said Allen’s appearance was inspiring to her.

“I enjoyed this so much! I’m extremely proud of Krystal Hardy Allen,” Moore said. “She is truly inspirational and such a great gift to her hometown and many. I don’t have enough words to express how magical this was. I pray that everyone in attendance will express the impact with our actions. “

Selma City Councilwoman Lesia James, Rep. Prince Chestnut, SHA executive director Kennard Randolph and Dallas County District Court Judge Vernetta Perkins-Walker attended the event.

“It was a wonderful event,” James said.
