Keith High, Southside High and Dallas County punched their tickets to the regional softball tournament on Tuesday.
The Lady Bears spanked Central-Hayneville 21-3 and R.C. Hatch 20-3 to repeat as area champions for the fourth straight year.
Southside captured the Area 6, Class 3A title, sweeping Greensboro 17-0 and 17-2.
Dallas County High and Selma High each made their respective tournaments but had short stints.
In the Area 5, Class 4A tournament on April 29, Dallas County beat Wilcox Central 7-0 but fell twice to Prattville Christian 12-0 and 15-0 for the title.
Selma lost to Marbury 11-1 and Demopolis 19-0 in the Area 6, Class 5A tournament on April 26.
Keith head coach Towanna Johnson-Flennory said she’s proud of the Lady Bears for setting a new standard, but the journey is not over.
“Our job isn’t done, we want more,” Johnson-Flennory said. “We have been area champs four years straight. We appreciate it, but our goal is being the best, and that means we have to be the last team standing in 1A.”
The Central Regional tournament starts on May 6 at Lagoon Park in Montgomery. The Lady Hornets play Northside at 9 a.m. on May 6 in the 4A Regionals. Keith plays Loachapoka at 9 a.m. on May 7, and Southside faces Beulah at 10:45 a.m. The games are double-elimination.
