A man has been injured after his private plane crashed about two miles south of Selma several hundred yards off U.S. 80.

The crash occurred just southwest of the Craig Motel, which is located about 2-3 miles east of the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Emergency workers had to reach the site of the plane crash by foot to reach the victim because vehicles could not travel on the muddy terrain.

The pilot appeared to be the only person on the plane. Dallas County Coroner William Alan Dailey responded by text that the person was being transported to the hospital.

The pilot was apparently traveling from near Dallas, Texas, to see relatives in the Selma area. The site of the crash is about 2 miles from Craig Airport. Relatives were on the scene and were reportedly talking with the pilot on his cell phone after the crash.
